What drives the social media management cost

The number of posts matters less than what goes into each one.

How many platforms. Facebook and Instagram together is a different job than adding TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Posts per month, and whether they are photos, graphics, carousels or short videos.

Video. Filming and editing reels costs more than designing graphics, and usually performs better.

Community management: replying to comments and messages, and how fast.

Paid ads, which need their own strategy, creative and budget.

On-site photo or video shoots at your business.

Reporting tied to leads, not just likes.

What changes social media costs on Long Island

Local content takes more work, and it is what works.

L

Local content

Posts showing your team on a job in Smithtown or at an event in Long Beach beat generic graphics, and take more effort to make.

S

Seasonal calendars

Hamptons and North Fork restaurants and venues need heavier summer posting, then a lighter off season.

D

Shoot days

An on-site photo and video day at your business adds cost but can fill a month of posts.

Agency, freelancer or a part-time hire?

All three can work. The right one depends on how much you want to manage yourself.

1

Part-time employee

Knows your business well. You manage them, and the work stops when they leave or get busy.

2

Freelancer

Affordable and flexible. Coverage depends on one person.

3

Agency

A team for strategy, content, ads and reporting, so the work keeps going when someone is out.

Red flags in a social media proposal

Watch for these before you sign.

F

Follower count promises

Followers can be bought. Calls, messages and booked jobs cannot.

S

Stock photos only

People buy from businesses they can see. Real photos of your team and work beat stock every time.

R

No reporting on leads

You should know how many messages, calls and form fills social media produced.

Straight answers before you call.

What is included in social media management?

Usually a content plan, post design or video, captions, scheduling, and monthly reporting. Replies to comments and messages, ads and photo shoots are often extras, so ask.

Does the price include ads?

Usually not. Ads have a management fee, often 10% to 20% of spend or a flat fee, plus the ad spend you pay to Meta.

How many posts a month do I need?

Most small businesses do well with 8 to 12 good posts a month on one or two platforms. Consistency beats volume.

Which platforms matter for a Long Island business?

For most local businesses, Facebook and Instagram. Restaurants and venues often add TikTok, and professional services add LinkedIn.

Should I hire an employee instead?

If you have steady work for one, and time to manage them, it can work. Many businesses find an agency costs less than a salary and covers more skills.
