How to add a user to Google Business Profile
Google My Business is now called Google Business Profile, and the steps to add a user changed with it. Here’s how to add a user to Google Business Profile in 2026, what owners and managers can do, and how to fix the problems that come up most.
Open business.google.com
Sign in with an account that owns the profile.
Go to People and access
Select More, then Business Profile settings, then People and access.
Add and invite
Select Add, enter their email, choose Owner or Manager, then Invite.
Step by step: add a user to Google Business Profile
You need to be an owner to add people. Managers can’t add or remove users. Each person needs their own Google account.
Go to business.google.com
Sign in with the Google account that owns the profile. If you manage more than one business, pick the right one.
Open Business Profile settings
Select More, then Business Profile settings.
Select People and access
You will see everyone who has access now, plus any pending invitations.
Select Add
The Add button is at the top left of the People and access panel.
Enter their email and pick a role
Type the email for their Google account. Under Access, choose Owner or Manager.
Select Invite
They get an email. Once they accept, they show up in the list and you get an email too.
On a phone, or if business.google.com sends you to Google Search, search for your business name while signed in, open the menu on your profile, and choose Business Profile settings, then People and access. The steps from there are the same.
Owner or manager: which role to give
There are two roles now. Site manager is gone. Google now calls that role manager.
Primary owner
One per profile, with the final say over ownership. Has to hand off primary ownership before leaving the profile.
Owner
Full control: edits everything, adds and removes people, changes roles and can remove the profile.
Manager
Edits info, posts, photos and products, replies to reviews and messages, and sees performance. Can’t add or remove people.
Giving an agency access? Make them a manager, not an owner. You keep control of who can see and change your listing. That’s how we ask our own clients to set it up.
Change a role or remove someone
All three happen in the same People and access panel.
Change a role
Select the person, select Edit next to Access, pick the new role and select Save. Only owners can do this.
Remove someone
Select the person, then Remove person. Their old posts and review replies stay on the profile.
Remove yourself
Select your own name, then Stop managing and Confirm. A primary owner has to transfer primary ownership first.
Common problems and how to fix them
The questions we hear most from Long Island business owners.
I can’t see the Add button
You probably have manager access. Ask an owner to add the person, or to make you an owner.
The invite never arrived
Check spam and make sure the email is a Google account. You can cancel the invite under PENDING and send it again.
I can’t remove someone
For the first 7 days after someone becomes an owner or manager, Google blocks removing users and transferring primary ownership.
Can I add a group email?
No. Google Groups can’t be owners or managers. Add each person’s own Google account.
Nobody can get into the profile
If the old owner left and nobody can sign in, you can request ownership of the profile from Google.
Where did Google My Business go?
It was renamed Google Business Profile. Most editing now happens right in Google Search and Maps.
